To Otto Zacharias   10 May 1876

Down, | Beckenham, Kent.

May 10. 76

Dear Sir

I am much obliged for your kind letter, and will not forget to send you the sheets of my new book (even before the index is printed), as you request.1 But I suppose this will not be until October. I am very glad to hear about your intended NewsPaper, & that you have been so wonderfully successful as to get 20 able collaborateurs.2

Believe me, dear Sir | Yours very faithfully | Charles Darwin

Footnotes

Zacharius’s letter has not been found; he probably wished to discuss Cross and self fertilisation in his new journal (see n. 2, below).
Zacharias had first written to CD about his plans for a journal to be called Darwinia in June 1875; in August 1875 he stated that he needed twenty-four collaborators in order for the periodical to be successful (Correspondence vol. 23, letters from Otto Zacharias, 3 June 1875 and 19 August 1875 and n. 3).
