I am not able to go to London today.

Apr. 26th.

Your note just received.— I will tell no human being.— I hope to be better tomorrow so as to get to London, & will call on you next morning.—1

The note from Romanes has not been found, but was a reply to the letter to G. J. Romanes, [before 26 April 1876]. CD stayed with his brother, Erasmus Alvey Darwin, in London from 27 April until 3 May 1876 (CD’s ‘Journal’ (Appendix II)).
