Johann August Georg Edmund (Edmund) Mojsisovics von Mojsvár
1839–1907
Austrian geologist, palaeontologist, and alpinist. Studied law, then geology and geography. Doctorate in jurisprudence, Graz, 1864. Volunteer, Royal and Imperial Geological Institute, 1865; head of geology, 1870; vice-director, 1892. Privat-dozent in special geology, Vienna, 1871–86. Co-founder of the journal Beiträge zur Paläontologie und Geologie Österreich-Ungarns und des Orients. Worked on Triassic cephalopods. Co-founder of the Austrian alpine club, 1862; German alpine club, 1869.
