Darwin Correspondence Project

To John Murray   14 December 1874

Down, | Beckenham, Kent. | Railway Station

Dec 14. 1874

My dear Sir

My book will consist of two quite distinct parts, as you will see by the enclosed paper.1 After a good deal of puzzling, the best title which I can think of is given at the head of the enclosed;2 & you might advertise this alone, or more in detail by giving the two parts as you think fit.

My dear Sir | Yours very sincerely | Ch. Darwin

Footnotes

A note appeared under the heading ‘Literary gossip’ in the Athenæum, 9 January 1875, announcing the forthcoming publication of a book by CD titled Insectivorous and climbing plants. In the event, the second edition of Climbing plants was published separately; Insectivorous plants was published in July 1875.
The enclosure has not been found.
