From Hermann Müller 10 March 1868
Lippstadt
10 March 1868.
My dear Sir!
Only this moment I have received a letter from W. Engelmann of Leipzig, who excuses himself by the sudden death of his son-in-law for having answered so late.1 He writes to me: “Very gladly I am ready to cede you the 67 “Clichés” of the woodcuts belonging to the work of your brother—at the price of 22 thalers.2 The woodcuts themselves I do not give out of my hand. The profits which could result from the English translation of this work, I will not take part of. The German original has not been successful, as I have lost thereby 60–70 thalers”.
I am very sorrow to have not obtained from Engelmann, as I wished, the use of the woodcuts for nothing, but after this letter from him further negotiations with him would certainly be of no result.
If you wish to obtain at this price the clichés of the woodcuts belonging to my brothers work,3 you will write it to me and I shall procure you them as promptly as possible.
In expecting your orders in this regard I remain with the greatest respect | yours very faithfully | H Müller.
