My dear George

I have just read your article.2 It strikes me now as more interesting & able that when I read it in M.S. I feel sure that I shd. been much struck by it, if I had never heard of the author. It also seems to me unusually well written & arranged. Eras.3 remarked spontaneously that it was very well written, & interesting.— I wish you joy. It is a good omen for the future.

Your affectionate Father | Ch. Darwin

Footnotes

The year is established by the reference to George’s article (see n. 2, below).
The article, ‘On beneficial restrictions to liberty of marriage’ (G. H. Darwin 1873b), was published in Contemporary Review, August 1873.

Summary

Thinks highly of GHD’s article [probably "On beneficial restrictions to liberty of marriage", Contemp. Rev. 22 (1873): 412–26]. A good omen for the future.
